FIFA World Cup 1986 Puma Kings
World Cup history.
This project saw the restoration of 30-year-old Puma King football boots. The iconic silhouette carries a history all its own. For me, it's the legend that is Maradona, and his 1986 World Cup win with Argentina.
With these boots, I set out to show that good quality can be restored, it doesn't have to go to waste, or be discarded for the latest version. The history in each crease of the leather adds to its story.
A closer look at the details shows him carried by his teammates as he lifts the World Cup above his shoulders, the packed Estadio Azteca in Mexico set behind him.
The other boot captures his joy as he kisses the World Cup in the stands, the dream of his nation, made real.
Behind the scenes, this process required careful restoration before any painting began, washing, sanding, polishing, and preparing the surface to be painted on
